Have you been blocked by the firewall?
All our servers run smart firewalls, which lock people off if they keep on trying to guess your password or if they look like they are hacking into your website. This block locks out only yourself at your current location (via IP address), that is, it really only affects you and your website stays up for other people. It’s just about trying to make it harder to hack your website!
However, life being life, we understand this can be annoying sometimes particularly if you get blocked by a false alert or you forgot your password and tried a lot of times (hint: try 3-4 times, then wait 15 mins and you won’t get blocked!). Unfortunately it’s impossible for a server to tell the difference between a legitimate user getting their password wrong and a hacker trying to guess your password.
Self unblock now available
If you get blocked now, on most of our servers you can visit your own website from the same location and, if you’re blocked, you’ll be presented with a short page which will allow you to verify you are a human and unblock yourself. Bear in mind the confirmation message appears at the bottom of the page, and that it may take a minute or so to work. If this doesn’t unblock you, please contact us as usual and we’ll get you sorted.
This trick of visiting your own website works for blocks on email as well, as both web and email get blocked at the same time.
Also, if you use your website a lot from your office, if you let us know your office IP address we can “whitelist” it so it never gets blocked.
